Oh look, Falcon's nazis are still here!

Since IWI is gone and casinos are banned, people are nagging me to come back to EVE. They are naive. CCP didn't ban these RMT-ers because they reformed. CCP issued bans because I threatened them with sending anti-gambling authorities after them. They are the same old corrupted mess. You want evidence of their continued wrongdoing? Here it is!

Two weeks ago, Reddit exploded that TISHU members used Nazi symbolism on their Alliance Tournament ships: they placed 1488 Gas canisters into them, referring to the neo-nazi code and the Holocaust. Due to the outrage, CCP Falcon jumped in:

Having long experience with that human garbage, I was instantly sure, that this is a coverup. He makes an angry statement to ensure people that they are handling this case, then sweep it below the carpet. And I was right, as usual with my EVE "conspiracies". Below you can see the AT ships of the neo-nazis and their latest killboard activity: Falcon's neo-Nazis didn't even got a temporary suspension. So much for "we're looking to it". They looked, they laughed, they probably bought some beers and that was it. Do you want to play a game, where open neo-Nazi propaganda is welcomed?!

PS: please link it on r/eve, let them know how much CCP values their concerns!

Because _you_ threatened them? The self importance is strong with you. Correlation does not equal causation

Do you know of anyone else threatening them?

Please pull through with this as well! Many TISHU members, so I have read, are German players. What they did is probablay a criminal offense in Germany. I would like them to receive a letter from the state attourney, so they can rethink if this was a hilarious joke or in fact something of different proportions. However, the road there probably leads though CCP's office, as only they know who of the actual culprits are German nationals (unintended pun).

As regards correlation / causation: Both is possible, only CCP knows. Even without your mail, they would have followed the Steam/Valve case quite closely, and their lawyers certainly advised them to better shut that off rather today than tomorrow, after Valve got mail from the Washington gambling authority. But your point may have merit, that they might have tried to fly under the radar without your mail. I find it good you wrote that email.

They might have their own legal teams telling them stuff might be getting a bit hot so better quit while ahead etc.

Still not entirely sure how just putting 1488 of x in the hold is nazi propaganda. Are they actually calling for any nazi behaviours / changes?

Anonymous said...

No. I don't. But I know they likely have a legal team who is keeping an eye on laws which impact their business. What's more likely? - veiled threat from someone they, at best, find amusing or advice from their legal dept?

1488 canisters of gas is just that: 1488 canisters of gas.

If anybody is spreading Nazi propaganda - it is you, not them. Without your commentary I would never know about their cargo and even if I did, I wouldn't know 1488 had anything to do with white supremacists.

Tomorrow some nazis may start using letter A as their symbol. Will you ban all characters that start with an A?

Neonazis are idiots, no question about it. I doubt they are dangerous, though. Rather the opposite: they remind us all about the crimes of Germans, and at the same time they make such laughing stock of themselves that nobody wants to be a Nazi anymore. Their continual existence and idiocy acts as a vaccination against the real threat of national socialism and supremacy groups: a little dose for everyone to see how pathetic their ideology is.

Lots of ganked miners 24/7. You think you are the first one who wrote a ticket demanding XYZ, based on 123? What makes you think that guy who received it had enough legal know-how to determine whether its something serious or not? You think every threat of legal action against CCP gets handed down to legal department? Btw. do CCP even have legal department?

Having said that, I would totally laugh with them. Mildly from a joke, but wholeheartedly from comments made by triggered individuals, trying to virtue signal left and right from the heights of their 'moral high ground'...

Gevlon said...

@all: No doubt that their legal department said them to stop. If you threaten them to sue for a ship loss, they will laugh as the legal department will say it's nonsense.

But why stop "casinos" now? They were doing the same for years in the same legal environment. What changed is that they believed that "no one will go after a niche Icelandic company so who cares" and now they know that "a mad ex-customer will likely drag us to court and legal team says he has a case". Remember, many bad practices went on for decades in the World until someone was mad enough to actually file a suit.

@maxim: it doesn't matter what 1488 Gas IS. It matters what it MEANS to people. And people were outraged seeing it. Similarly the swastika was an old Hindu symbol that offended no one. Then Hitler started to use it and since than it does.

With the post Falcon acknowledged the fact that 1488 Gas make people think of Nazism. And then allowed it.

Not everything need one single reason, and on this one I think both (or even more ) to be the most likely :

First the legal department making them understand what they risks, and the email making sure they understand they won't be able to fly under the radar, and that even if they tryed to, that email could have been used to prove they were perfectly aware of the issue when the shit finally hit the fan. Also, they might consider Gevlon amusing, but if I was in their shoes, I would also consider him "crazy enough" to follow up with his shit. Also, unlike the easily dismissed ganked miners legal thread, this one got some serious legal grounds ( currently on most gaming news sites ).

@Gavlon Oh yea. You planned to report it to "proper authorities"? Where? In which country? In which State? Then what kind of authorities? Federal Trade Commission? Great. Class-action or not? Would you use special form or just write them a letter? Would you look it up on FTC webpage and hope its up to date? But hey, at least you don't have to decide on State at this point. Would you sign it yourself or ask lawyer to do it? Because you would send it in paper copy instead of using online service, right? Would you even hire a lawyer? How do you know that FTC wouldn't inquire into your case and then just drop it? Because you screwed up the form, failed to comply with article XYZ of code ABC, which clearly states that foreign complaints (you are not from US right?) are handled by totally different body, on different form... What then? Oh and look, its few months later, because unless the case is of grave public concern it will land in very long queue.

The bottom line is that CCP don't know how threatening your threat is, neither do you. You are blowing it out of proportion.

Look, I work in this business in Poland. And sorry for going ad verecundiam on you, but unless I actually see law suit, on paper, with stamp from appropriate court, with stamp from appropriate postal service (dates matter), with valid power of attorney, I don't give a shit about threats. Once I get that that law suit or memo from some kind of government authority THEN I start to think about the consequences.

All you might have done is inform CCP that there is a shift in legal framework governing their service in US. What their legal team was analyzing was not your threat, but ruling of FTC.

Hey, let's band together, dox them, call at their workplace and inform their employer about the neo-nazi-tendencies of their piece of sh..

years ago this behaviour would be called insane, by now it seems to have become socially acceptable to hunt and destroy people just because you don't like something they said, feel offended or just want to destroy a persons life.

Well at least you are in good company here.

With their ticket response times they probably haven't even read yours at the time of releasing news on bans.
As of their reply to you later: I've received such replies in the past, when filed bug-reports on some matters. They just send similar letters with links to the dev-blog or patch-notes post-factum to close as many tickets as they can.

Also, it seems that Lenny will get unbanned despite anything. He's got lesser accusations in his case, so he'll probably end up unbanned after investigation ends. And his citadels keep getting up, for which I'm sad because there's noone willing to stop them from doing so.

Funniest was a thread created on another subreddit where non-eve redditors this event. Interesting view of normal population into the "eve online walled garden", and telling why the game can't retain players.

I'm German and thanks to Germans collective guilt second generation I should know what "1488 gas canisters" mean. but I don't, am I missing something? sure if they cover their ships in swastikas and hitler tribute.

For those people who can't be bothered to google the phrase "nazi 1488"...

1488 is a number used by Aryan Brotherhood in the US. H is the eighth letter of the alphabet and 88 stands for "HH" which stands for Heil Jerkwad. The 14 is for 14 words of the AB credo. I wouldn't be surprised if the AB organization migrated over to Europe along with the Hell's Angels.

@Gevlon
A swastika doesn't mean much to me. And i'm a born-in-USSR russian with military heritage in the family, celebrating every 9th may like it could literally be last.

Symbols don't mean much if they are not accompanied by someone trying to convince people of the meaning behind them. You are among those doing the convincing here.

I am not behind the notion that people need to be protected from symbols. Banning stuff from public space does a lot more to popularise it than just having it run its marginal course.

Freaking out at the sight of number 1488 does not currently strike me as genuine feelings of actual victims, but rather as playing the victim for attention/lulz and other reasons you normally dismiss and deride for being "social".

maxim said...

Trivia time:

14 = The 14 words
"We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children"
Phrase coined by George Lincoln Rockwell, the founder of the American Nazi Party

88 = H is the 8th letter of the alphabet
ergo 88 = HH = Heil Hitler.

So it is a very specific secret handshake of english-speaking nazis (doesn't work in other languages).

The gas canisters bit should be obvious flavour.

@anonymous

The 1488 cannisters of gas is probably more of a wink wink nudge nudge neo nazi salute than outright propaganda. Though why eve would have a large number of neonazis playing is a question for another time.

The Emperor has no clothes. He and his demoted fiancee are borderline useless. They would never be employed by another games company and well all know it.

Falcon is just a sad person. Would never be employed by another half descent games company anywhere.

Our dear supremacist friends Theo and Jacek, your statements about not knowing 1488 is funny - http://www.adl.org/combating-hate/hate-on-display/c/1488.html

Anonymous said...

Google it: "1488 is a combination of two popular white supremacist numeric symbols. The first symbol is 14, which is shorthand for the "14 Words" slogan: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." The second is 88, which stands for "Heil Hitler" (H being the 8th letter of the alphabet)."

1488 is not just a number.

Gevlon, just report these incidents on the ADL homepage. MAybe they have enough of a lobby to take action against CCP...

Gevlon said...

99smite: I'm torn on that. On the one hand I don't like ADL at all. On the other hand, they are pretty effective on persecuting anyone who is unlucky enough to get in their way, regardless of guilt (hence I don't like them at all). But hey, am I running for fair play prize or win?
