Blinged servants

Marmites and Lemmings caught an especially dumb Goon servant. Antillies wedge of Gentleman's aggreement flied a "max cargo" fit covops hauler. He lost his 900M ship. Then he didn't warp out his 3.3B pod. I hope his last words were "For Mittens!"

After that a 2B LAWN moron was found missioning in highsec. His pod was cheaper. This is the fate of those who sell their soul to the Evil!

Gevlon... have you considered the CODE gang as a more suitable target for your "anti evil" campaign? You said yourself that the community should police cases like Erotica1, and the two are clearly linked...

In fact, before being banned apparently Erotica made large donation to the Code.

See Tuesday post about it.

Hard to attack code when your allies are marmite though. I'd argue marmite and there competitors such as pursuit of happiness and devils alliance do more harm to new player then code, by at least 2 orders of magnitude.

Marmite ganks bad players. Since when it's a bad thing? It's like saying "winning Tol Barad without a single death is evil as you farm them like mobs".

Going after real life people, harvesting tears is bad.

In this case, Goons ganking in hisec isn't bad either. They too do it for laughs and make fun of their victims. And for the record - marmite doesn't gank bad players. They gank who they wish and the irony is, your donations enable them to gank even more. In my opinion, this is a prime example of being morally bad.

marmite ganks any player that trys to play with their friends. You can argue thats a bad thing in eve and it is, but only because of the really moronic war dec rules and awoxing. Just because something can be exploited to farm tears doesnt mean it should be.

wasn't that the argument used against Erotica? Why doesnt it apply to marmite et al?

You said going against real life people. I disagree that getting you on coms is different to getting you via in game chat. I turn up at your door, or find your facebook? yeah thats going into yr Irl. Coming into someones mumble or jabber is no different for me then speaking to you over the goblinworks channal, except I get to use my voice instead of typing and thats means I can spam my rotation faster.

Ye Er1 farmed tears and I dont like that. Im not a fan of CODE. Marmite and Co though stop me from playing with people. At least thats how I see it.

@Louis: That would make sense but he wont - primarily because of his central need to be seen as relevant in games he plays (his measure of "winning", which of course is the most important thing).

CODE is easier to throw the label of "evil" on. Their activities are certainly pushing some meta game boundaries in areas that Goons haven't before. However CODE is relatively small and largely irrelevant (completely so, on the influence map).

Goons are a far juicer target - they are the largest and the most successful, and thanks largely to their own propaganda, there is s misconception that they are outright "evil" when in fact they are not (as an organisation. There are likely "evil" people within that organisation but that doesn't make the entire group so).

Goons offer a fair price on PI, attacking and flipping customs offices has actually worked against the interests of industrialists.

Goons also are renowned for honouring their agreements (they literally have never been publicly outed for breaking an agreement) because they know that a great deal of their power extends from their diplomacy.

But reusing the same tired old "goons are evil" meme is an easy way to create some propaganda. The fact that it is the same recycled propaganda that literally everyone on the wrong side of goons has used before doesn't matter. Gevlon sees it as useful in his quest for eve relevance.

He also (although wont admit it) upset that he couldn't join CONDI - even though if he followed their recruitment requirements and kept his head down he would have easily made it in and likely been elevated to a position within the economic cabal. These days, no matter how many something awful subscriptions he buys it is unlikely goons would accept him.

The question is, how do members of Lemming's feel about being used as pawns in Gevlon's misguided quest for relevancy?

Do CODE not gank bad players too?

Marmite do more than just gank. They are a merc alliance, or as most high seccers see them, griefers.

Miniluv are gankers.

You're not going to get anywhere calling people servants and slaves. It's about as dehumanizing as erotica1.

How about you guys?

Spoiling E1 & friends' tear harvesting operation is certainly a worthy and fun goal. Might be a nice change from protecting some griefer corp's highsec assets.

Nevermind, RvB just announced war against E-UNI, the devilish newbie teachers...

@Anonymous: Goons ganking bad players isn't bad. Claiming that they can't be better and Goons can gank them whenever they want because they have more friends is evil.

@Nightgerbil: why do you have to be in the same corp as other people to play with them?

@Powers: they are literally servants. Maybe not slaves individually (any player can choose to quit SMA or TNT) but as a group yes. They have no power over their actions, they do what the Goon directorate tells them.

So your contention then is that unless you are your own boss, you are a 'servant'? Why not use the term 'employee'?

Being part of an organization means being responsive to the needs of the organization - you are doing what is needed because doing so, in the larger picture - benefits you.

If you feel this is in some way demeaning, then why aren't you out murdering people?

After all, 'cooperation in pursuit of self-interest' is one of the defining characteristics of the basic Hobbesian Social Contract that makes society at all functional, too.

BTW, don't forget to mention the brilliant heroics of Lemmings bringing a Talwar gang to help out those staunch defenders of PvE goodness, TRI...

... and dying.

Welcome to Nullsec, Lemmings.

The fleets are a little larger out here than you might be used to.

@Nightgerbil: why do you have to be in the same corp as other people to play with them?

Because for tightly-knit groups of people who know one another from outside EVE, the existence of the corp wallet and corp hangars are actually very useful, despite your insistence otherwise.

Tell me, have you ever actually been in a PvE corp with other people who know one another from outside of EVE, who don't recruit in-game? Or are you offering as fact an opinion based on an outside viewpoint, with no direct experience to inform it?

RvB just announced war against E-UNI, the devilish newbie teachers.

RvB and E-UNI have a long history of being at war with one another. Over a number of years, towers have changed hands in both directions many times. E-UNI encourages this, and has declared as many of these wars as RvB has.

Try again, O Wielder of the Withering Scorn.

You do realize that the directorate is made up of people from these "servant" alliances don't you?

It's not like all the decisions are made by CONDI and everyone else must bow down. That isn't how goons work - and you've been told that at least 10 times that I can recall now.

@ Trollplonk:

About the RvB - EveUni war.

We aren't doing this to "crush" EveUni, or harvest tears, or whatever. This war is "traditional", and has occurred a number of times (last time was February 2013 I believe, before I joined RvB).

Why do we do this? There are many reasons. One is to test ourselves. It's one thing having constant small gang fights, but it's good to take our large fleet doctrines out once in a while and test them vs a large enemy. Another reason is educational - both for our newer members *and* EveUni members, there is great value in taking part in such a conflict.

The main reason though is fun. I am certain both EveUni and RvB members are going to have a blast.

Tear harvesting has *nothing* to do with this war.

@Arrendis: I've never tried to be in the same corp (in highsec) with my own alts. It's just asking for trouble. Contracts and direct trade can handle all item and ISK movement

Employees get paid. You get nothing individually in nullsec. You can farm both ISK and kills in highsec better, alone. You go there as a volunteer to be part of the history of New Eden. Instead, you end up someone else's F1 drone. "Slave" is a very fitting term.

Lets switch that quote up a bit Gevlon, shall we?
"They are literally servants. Maybe not slaves individually (any player can choose to quit Lemmings) but as a group yes. They have no power over their actions, they do what the Marmite directorate tells them."

Seems like it still works.

Gevlon said...

@Tiran: they aren't evaluated and commanded. You can join Lemmings and mine veldspar in Josameto. Not that it's a good idea, but no one will command you any other way.
