The voice of highsec

About a month ago Jester was upset how unprofessionally CSM7 handled a "town hall" meeting. I responded "The people never get politicians they want. They get politicians they deserve. They usually get them by inaction, letting a loud minority have the control. Stop bitching over the incompetence of CSM. Whatever they are is your fault. And mine of course."

I thought a lot how could we get better "politicians". The standard answer to anyone bitching over bad politicians is "start a party and do better". It's a mocking advice. Politics need lot of resources. Also, no matter how honest and fair you are, how much devoted you are to an idea, why should anyone believe you? You are just another stranger, telling the same panels as known liars and thieves.

The reason for the delay between that post and this, is that I couldn't come up with better idea than going for a seat in CSM8. And it's a bad idea. Not only because it would be hard to convince anyone that I'm not just another guy who wants (the pathetic pixel imitation of) power, but because few things I hate more than endless meetings and chatting over nothing. Also The Mittani is right how these things go: "The CSM is not about spreadsheets. The CSM is about persuasion, deal-cutting, and political nuance. It is not a job for a saint, someone on the autism spectrum, or someone who doesn’t understand why a quiet word in a dev’s ear after a night out drinking is more effective than days of formalized conferences. If you want to get things done, you must be able to read body language, understand how CCP itself works as a business, and determine who the most influential people at the company are." No thanks, reading the body language of a drunken guy is not my dream activity.

So me in CSM is out of the picture. What now? It took some time to find the answer: a lobby organization, The voice of highsec. Read the permanent page and join our movement to make highsec, PvE and crafting a better game. Let our voice be heard!

I hope you succeed.

I read the comments and some many were like Alex's that if you don't want to play their EVE you should quit the game.

People who can't emigrate get the government they deserve. Such a large part of the forums, CSM & developers are all about the HTFU culture. I just don't see CCP having the flexibility or even desire to evolve EVE. It is close to being a great game; but there is no point wasting time trying to get people who will never change to change. Leaving the game seems so much more logical than thinking that enough effort can change those who like that it is a small customer base.

Corps can't have custom logos as far as I'm aware, only alliances can. More info here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Alliance_logo_submission_process

@Fade: check out the screenshot on the linked page. The other corporations had various colors and shapes.

Awh.

I'm rather sure that most people hate politicians just as much.

However, I think that everyone makes the mistake of overestimating how much "sociableness" goes into being a successful politician. being social is the easiest way, maybe, but perhaps not the only way.

For the record, if an a-social/anti-social politician was ever to run for any office, I'd vote for them in an instant. It would be refreshing to see someone whose only merit isn't tongue-swirling and cajolery run for anything.

Not that I play Eve, but I think this would be a worthwhile political endeavor.

@Gevlon these are no custom logos, they are created with the in-game logo creation tool (which allows you to put several layers of predefined images on top of each other and color each layer.)

Custom logos are only available to alliances that are at least 6 months old and have more than 150 active members.
They have to submit their logo proposals to CCP which then approves/denies them (e.g. hydra reloaded submitted this piece of artwork - http://i.imgur.com/dT9Rm.png - which was unsurprisingly turned down by CCP).
If approved, reworked gets reworked by a CCP artist to better match the EVE aesthetics and then included into the next expansion/major patch.

@Gevlon, yes there are loads of shapes and colours in the corp logo creator in-game. I can't see anything in your screen shot that looks like it isn't in there going by the styles in the logos.

Compare the Goon corp logo: http://image.eveonline.com/Corporation/98095121_128.png

Any decrease of ganking must also come with a serious crackdown on bots. Right now, mining bots hide behind newbie corps so they basically can not be killed without resorting to gank tactics.

This isn't a lobby group. It is a petition. You can have no discussion in comments on this post. At the moment you have an all or nothing position of "I do/don't agree with Gevlin."

A lobby needs an open forum for discussion with members being able to support and oppose ideas giving reasons and suggesting improvements. There needs to be limited moderation with only trolling comments removed, and comments outside the general principles of the lobby retained but marked as out of scope.

Jester blogg is more about bad CSM "moderation" and not so much about bad CSM "members" (let Alekseyev Karrde aside).

Hans Jagerblitzen made their dilemma quite clear

"Also - if questions ARE filtered somehow, I don't think it should fall on the CSM itself to do it. I don't know who that should be exactly, but it seems incredibly self serving for us to choose only the questions we personally thought were worthwhile and disregard the rest. That seems to be the opposite of community interaction, in my opinion.
