Meet the third and fourth biggest killers in EVE in 2014. One of them is very elite, the other is not so much. I leave you to decide which is which.

Below you can see the corps of the alliance with more than 200B of its activity:

Well, well! They decisively lost against everyone who weren't BRAVE, TEST or in NPC corp! They are truly badass!

The inflation factor of this alliance is: 210%. Below you can see which alliances helped it the most by shooting the same target. Please note that damage is capped by own damage, so if the analyzed alliance did 1B damage, X did 2B, Y did 8B, then X get 0.2B help, Y get 0.8B, as their help provided 1B de-inflated damage.

Below you can see the monthly activity distribution chart. "Month" is here 1/12 year and not exact calendar month. Also, sorry for the ASCII graph, but creating so many proper image charts would be exreme work for all the alliances. Colors refer to ISK ratios, pure red means below 20%. We can see that most of their activity is related to B-R which they badly lost. They spent the rest of the year farming newbies.

This is the space distribution of the alliance, sorted by activity (losses+damage). Besides losing in B-R, they spent most of their time farming BRAVE in Catch, ganking lost fools in lowsec and harassing Provi. Maybe they should form a coalition with CODE and rebase to Uedama.

The top targets were obviously renters. But my year-long contract with them killing various CFC elements clearly had an effect on their killboard.

The inflation factor of this alliance is: 136%.

Well, they clearly don't blob. And everything they do is green. Marmite is (or at least in 2014 was) elite.

But Marmite only go after easy targets. It's easy to be "elite" when you refuse to engage when the other person can fire back. Just like in anything, an elite player is someone who beats the best, not someone who repeatedly beats the weakest targets. Are you more elite in WOW if you solo kill a raid boss or thousands of boars in westfall?

Marmite isn't immune to wardecs. The mythical "elite player is someone who beats the best" could go and bash them. Where is he?

How to fight Highsec camper, if they dock instantly up, if they will loose a fight?
You cant fight guerilla warfare, with a safe-house.

it is nearly same as MoA, but atleast they must come out of their base. still guerilla warfare is allways more efficient in a ISK ratio. but you cant win wars with it. just demoralize the enemy.

He's generally not in highsec under the protection of concord. Marmite hide from wardecs where they would risk a loss. They have standing orders to dock up when at risk, and their members get kicked for losing to people they should have docked up instead of fighting. It would be pointless trying to wardec Marmite as you'd just end up sitting outside stations while they refused to undock in anything they couldn't redock in good time.

So they use "cheap tactics" to prevent being defeated. Sounds like "winning" to me and "crying" from those who failed to defeat them.

"So they use "cheap tactics" to prevent being defeated. Sounds like "winning" to me and "crying" from those who failed to defeat them."
Sure, but they only defeat the weakest targets. It's like someone winning the world chess tournament vs someone who beat 500 people who have no idea how to play chess nor interest in playing it. The guy beating the 500 people isn't more elite even though he's won more games.

Gevlon said...

Again: the guy with the chess tournament can challenge and defeat the guy who "farms noobs". The mystical "elite" could come out and beat Marmite!

Anonymous said...

The guy with the chess tournament could not defeat the guy if he refuses to start the game.

Marmite use the same tactics as other organisations that you decry.

The only difference is, one group you decry as pathetic gankers, and the other one you hold up as bastions of greatness.

No, there is no one who could come out and 'defeat' marmite, especially under your definitions of 'winning', as Marmite would never fight under those circumstances, but would stay docked and thus never lose their killboard stats.
In the same way that MOA or other pirate nullsec entities keep their killboards green by only engaging targets they suspect will be easy kills and avoiding fights they might lose.
Mind you I'm not condemning the playstyle, to each their own, but claiming someone can come and defeat them is just nonsense. The only way to do that would be to not present them targets at all. And that will never happen.
Entities with a more red killboard, especially if it contains a lot of repeated expensive kills just show that these players are space rich enough that they can and will take fights they might lose because it amuses them enough to log in for.
Which is a different playstyle. To you it sounds like losing, because you've made it quite clear that to you ISK (both efficiency and amount) is how you win.
What I've never understood is why you seem so baffled by those who just don't use the same metric and still keep playing.

No, the elite chess player cannot challenge the noob farmer because the noob farmer always comes up with excuses why he has no time to play chess against the elite.

Also it is very easy to ignore marmite if you play the highsec game. Just stay in an NPC corp and laugh at them. It is not easy to ignore PL if you play the sov game.

Gevlon said...

There is a problem with the "Marmite hides" line: Marmite has (had in 2014) awful lot of kills. #4 in the whole EVE. While indeed anyone can have high killboard ratio (kill one noob, never undock again, guaranteed 100%), they undock a lot for those kills. Any mythical elite could camp them into no kills and disband. Yet none do.

Evil Goon #45431 said...

What you are totally missing is the point that no one of the "Elite PVP" has any motive for a organized campaign against marmite. Why should we or PL or whatever Nullsec alliance do anything aginst Marmite? They don't influence our game, at all. They play basically a totally different game. Sure, we gotta go to Jita at some point but a Hauler alt is trained in no time and NPC corps make us immune against any highsec mercs. CODE has a greater influence, by far.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure some *could* camp Marmite into disbanding. All it would take is find say 50-100 pilots willing to sit on a series of undocks 23/7 with enough ships while keeping marmite wardecced for several months to deny their members content. They don't need to be all that good either, just the constant threat would work.
And wardec any new groups founded by Marmite members.
The thing is, no one dislikes Marmite anywhere near enough to be interested in something that utterly boring.
Marmite does not have this problem. It wardecs a LOT of corps at the same time, and as their killboard shows, there are more than enough idiots with a shiny ship in highsec, thus providing content for their members.

It's pretty clear Marmites are the best players in game and undefeated by any other alliance. Many big alliances have tried to send in fleets to high-sec and been destroyed by the fearless Marmites. 50-100 men fleets wont be enough, you need at least 250+ active skilled players, spread out over the entire highsec area. That's because they will just use jump clones to move around and there are to many small hunting groups to cover. They win because they've adapted their warfare. Eyes in every corner of highsec. Intelligence, skilled players and meta gaming is what makes Marmites so awesome.

Like it or not, the facts never lie.

Ps. I'm not Tora who is meta gaming with his enemies.

so far in 2014 Marmite have been challenged by POH, BAW, AD, PIRAT

POH got broken in 2 (granted they dropped the dead weight by doing this)

BAW spent 3/4 of their 'campaign' afg

AD got disbanded

PIRAT really didn't leave Amarr more then 2-3 times

We have been challenged by the best in our fields and have come out on top or at least alive all 4 times with very little disruption to normal activities. I welcome and even beckon a dedicated group of nullbears to attempt to pull off half the effort of any one of the listed groups.

apologies for the typo it was meant to read so far in 2015...

in 2014 I think we went to war with every other highsec merc crew that wern't blue to us in eve at the same time and not only survived but grew as an alliance, banded together more and still managed to make it to the top 10 list.
