Your energy > avatar energy

Energy is a limited resource in Black Desert, you get 20/hour while playing, 60/hour while lying in you bed AFK (don't ask the reason behind this) and 2/hour offline (all alts get it). You can use energy for special dialogs with NPCs and various crafting activities.

I optimized my gameplay around maximizing my energy usage. When I wake up, I find my character in bed with full energy (currently 260). I start crafting while doing chores, then go either to work (and the character back to the bed) or in weekends to play. Then Red Battleground gives 200 needing another crafting session. Before going to bed, I deplete the energy bar, so I must stop playing and start crafting an hour earlier. This system makes me rich.

No, it makes me a nolifer idiot for peanuts. A lowest tier crafting step that uses raw materials to create simple products (chopping timber, heating ore, cooking beer) makes around 3K, 2K after tax. Higher level is limited by lack of simple product availability. Processing takes 10 seconds, cooking takes 7 but you can't leave it AFK long as the cooking utensil depletes after 100 step. So in an hour I can make about 1.1M by crafting. My workers make 15M per day without interfering with my schedule. Even with perfect energy rotation (4 hours in bed, 1 crafting) I could only add 5M to it, at the cost of not playing at all and alarm clocking for starting the production. This is dumb. Me being on the toplist of both cooking and processing despite playing for only a month is not a proof of skill, it's a proof that I'm having priority issues. Or rather had, as by writing this post, I'm done with it.

I don't say that you should purposefully waste your energy and avoid crafting. If you don't want to play (like now I'm writing this post), but you can run your computer, sure, grab some material and craft something more valuable from it. But please don't change your playing schedule - and especially not your real life schedule - because of it. If your energy bar is full and you planned something else, just dump it into a good node. The farming sub-node, not the main one, that just increases grinding drops, and if something is worse than going AFK to craft is to grind the same monsters again and again and again. I know that for levels it's necessary, but pretty please, do it only overgeared to be as fast as possible and never-ever for money. I gained half of lvl 53 in 65+69 minutes in Elric Shrine today. I know because I checked the clock every second minute since my gear is almost complete. Hint: turning off the game sound and putting on music helps a lot.

Thanks to my worker empire, my gear is more or less ready for sieges/node wars. Too bad I have to tone it down for the Red Battlefield and use my farming axion shield instead of this beauty:

This really sounds like a terrible game

Truly maximizing your energy relies on working with fact that it ticks every 3 mins. So you go, do anything you want, but be in bed before the tick is due, it ticks, you get up, continue, until next tick.

Very tedious, yes, but with high lvl skill, it let's you craft much more than burn - sleep - burn :)

@Anon: it's not the game's fault if people have priority problems. There are nolifers in every game, it's your responsibility to not be one of them.

Thought so. I don't really bother with energy efficancy.
My gear is neraly complete so I don't need "Aminty shop energy" to buy it cheap. All alts have gathering beginner 10 .. so they can if I so chose all gather watter with the -7sec bottles. I didn't keep track of all the Amnity NPCs but some give knowledge, so I positioned some alts besides NPC with 3+ blue knowledge icons. Sure I dumped some energy into nodes I regularly visit; grindspot and some blackspirit daily/weekly spots.
Thanks for the hint that you can dump enery into worker sub nodes. is worth it? for grinding mobs I don't really notice the difference between a level 2 or a level 5 node.

WoW's garrisons are a similar example. Huge amounts of gold for running a few relatively painless and simple jobs. They offer a powerful incentive to log in frequently and organised your playing time around them even when you do not want to. Unfortunately, garrison burn-out builds up very quickly and in a game where they feel compulsory probably pushed a lot of people out of the game. The garrison gold-mine is a trap that most people struggle to bypass.
I should probably be applauding Blizzard. They found a way to bring the no-lifer experience to casuals!

@Anonymous (the correct one)
Don't get tricked though, many NPCs offer knowledge for amity/energy about something, that can be gotten for free (eg. visiting some Area, touching statue elsewhere, etc.). It's better to do amity game for purpose... also, if the amity game sucks balls (hello Glish Alchemist, Altinova cook), just set macro to spam Greeting, 3 energy for 3 amity.

Pumping energy into worker nodes... I like to think it helps, but most probably it's negligible. Into fishing nodes - tests proved it increases keys/relics drops, but not fish quality. Into grinding nodes - "tests" (not big sample) shown that it increases vendor trash drops, but not really chance for the rare drops (or it does, but it doesn't matter, if it's 0,9% or 0,92%).

I second anon of 06.33. Virtually every post makes me glad I sat this one out. I'm curious as to what the pvp turns out like for you though.

@nightgerbil: since the last patch removed exp loss on PK victim, open world PvP is kinda pointless. Before it was at least used to take over grindspots.

Yeah, I am amazed that you are still in this game Gevlon, it looks really tedious, and I would never try it, but it is fascinating to read how you manage your way through this game.

Really hope you find a "project" in this game!

Question: did you also look into Albion Online and Crowfall? What is your opinion about these? Any other game ideas if you cant find a project in BDO?

Is it the maximal gear you can achieve for now ? it sounds really quick to reach that point. I tried BDO and I don't know if I will like it, for now it's alright, I made a sorcerer and I'm doing the noob quests.

Also I had a really frustrating bug, when I talk to the black spirit, when one of my quest is done, I have a "complete" bar but it does nothing if I click on it, and I have to close the game from windows...

are you aware that you can make over 4-5 million an hour by mindlessly grinding with a party using special offers (not even counting if you get a rare drop)?

Gevlon said...

@jstk: of course. But there is quite a difference between making money grinding and making money while AFK.
