I'm not "confused", having a medium shield booster is simply pants on head retarded. If he did it to remain above jump cap (the new "cap stable"), he is doubly retarded (once because he can't jump when tackled, second because cap modules would do that job better)
You don't keep above jump cap to jump out you stay above it to jump to someone else tackled and cap mods do not do the job better. You are very much confused.
You have to do other things too in order to survive. The medium shield booster is there to tank rats, not to tank any PvP gang.
When you are tackled you should refit to tank a PvP gang and depending on the size and kind of tackle to get away, this is why you always are close to a mobile depot. The jumpcap is for
-the "solo tackle waiting for support", in which case to refit and jump out before he can bridge the 50 bombers in. -to aid other carriers which are tackled. -to jump out when a neutral gang is entering local, which is more effective than alligning/warping.
But in the end nothing is and will ever guarantee to save you. You fucked up the moment you got tackled and will probably die. And this is the major point of all our guides for carrier ratting and ratting in general.

I mean, this guy did some dumb stuff, but if you're confused about his medium shield booster, you're the one lacking knowledge.
