4 bags

Tailoring is my long time favorite for making gold. The weekly income is lower than with inscription or JC, but the G/hour is unmatched. No, I'm not talking about netherweave bags. That's a nasty grind, you buy lot of cloth for 4-5G, craft bolt of cloth, then buy thread and craft the bag just to sell for 8-9G. No thanks.

You can also sell spellthreads, but every living body are doing so. Frostweave bags sell below material price as it's used for leveling the profession.

However they removed CD for crafting special cloths: spellweave, moonshroud, ebonweave. They can be used for crafting epic items and special bags: abyssal, emerald, mysterious and glacial (this has 7 days CD)

They sell for 2-300G. Their material cost is 100-150G and they sell well. I always have 1-1 listed and surprisingly I have little competition. However you shall sell the cloths too, to people who are smart enough to get materials and find crafter or want the epic items.

The trick is that you get the cloths way before material price. You can specialize in one of the cloths so you get 2 for every cast, halving the material costs (imbued frostweave and 2 eternal somethings). You mass-craft several stacks of cloths and re-specialize. Changing spec costs 170G, so if you crafted 80 cloths, the specialization costs 2G/cloth. 2G is much-much less than half of the price of the cloth. The most expensive is spellweave, because eternal fire is about 25G, so a cloth for an unspecialized tailor costs 60G, but only 30 for a specialized. Of course if frozen orb is cheaper, you shall buy that and visit Frozo.

The 4 bags are also great to max out your tailoring while making money. That makes tailoring a very effective moneymaking profession to newly leveled characters changing their gathering professions to crafting:
  1. At slvl 350 you can start making bolt of frostweave cloth. You'll need a lot, so craft several stacks of bolts, bringing you to slvl 375, grey.
  2. Frostwoven belt brings you 380 until yellow
  3. Frostwoven boots become yellow at 385
  4. Frostwoven cowl yellow at 390 but you should go up to 395 (maybe 1-2 non-skillup)
  5. Duskweave belt up to 400
  6. Lot of bolt of imbued frostweave greys out at 405
  7. Duskweave wristwraps until 410
  8. Duskweave gloves until 415
  9. At 415 you can learn the 3 speciality cloths. Specialize in one and mass-craft at least 4 stacks of cloths. If you are low on money, do it with the cheapest: ebonweave. Money saved: 40*(10+6*2)-170=710.
  10. Respecialize to the other cloth and craft another 4 stacks (preferred moonshroud). Money saved: 40*(10+20*1)-170=1830G
  11. Respecialize and craft a few of the last one (preferred spellweave). This process will bring you to slvl 435.
  12. Craft 3-4 some abyssal bags and 3-4 Emerald bags, getting above 440
  13. Craft 3-4 mysterious bags getting above 445
  14. Craft your first Glacial bag
  15. List a few of all cloths and bags
  16. Collect gold
Of course there is more in tailoring, but that's a cataclysm-speculating and I'm no longer posting speculation tricks.

This is a nice write-up, but it will not work for those that are level 65 and got tailoring up to 450 as you can only get those recipies from reputation with the faction associated.
Also, if I need a profession leveling guide, I'll read those at www.wow-professions.com as they tend to give you the cheapest way to level a profession.

This is not the cheapest way to get to 450. This is a way to craft the items you want to sell while leveling. No sensible guide would say "craft moonshroud until grey", despite it's a profitable move, since it needs about a 1000G to be invested (40*(10+2*20)) into moonshroud.

One of the few times I agree. This is nice indeed. However ignoring Netherweave Bags is just stupid, it's soo damn easy money. Only thing you need is some AFK time to craft 40 bags or so. Put them on for 24 or 48 hours and they will be sold, just ignore the undercuts but dont stop buying the raw cloth

I'd have to agree with the above poster. I make 5g profits off each netherweave bag then post around 40 at a time. So it's 200g a day, usually they all sell, so that's an additional 1400g a week for not a whole lot of time invested.

It's AFK time anyways, walk away, make a sandwich and ta da!

Agree with the 2 above me. Not making NW Bags is just plain dumb. Tailoring is the absolute best profession for Casuals with little playtime, because so much of it is hit a button and forget it, til ur bags are full with crafted items or you are out of mats. Tailoring is the afk crafters profession

Given the price of netherweave is fairly high on most servers nowadays, I firmly support Gevlons' alternative methods of making money. Specialty bags are always in demand, though I foresee Abyssal bags not being good sellers soon, as people wise up about the lack of soul shards for 'locks in Cata.

I still make money on NW bags myself, but the gold/hour is considerably less than what Gevlon is sayign.

Netherweave bags and their profitability/dumb-factor are COMPLETELY dependent on your server's market. As an example, I have a tailor I was making NW bags on idly (I don't play there, but a couple times a week, I'd log on, buy up cheap cloth and grind out a ton of bags, log on about 2 times that week and post up to 12 bags - smaller pop, lots of undercutting, but usually sold about 8/12).

About a month ago, the price of the cloth skyrocketed - where once I could purchase a stack of netherweave for 2-5g, it was now 6-8g. And the price of bags? Well, someone bottomed out the market. At this moment, there are about 50 bags and all are posted at less than 8 gold. (Some dropping as low as 5g.)

I'm not interested in trying to "fix" that market, and my cash flow there isn't big enough to even try. So, for me, on that server, netherweave bags are a gigantic waste of time and money. (If that trend reverses, I'll be right back at it, though.)

"but a couple times a week, I'd log on, buy up cheap cloth and grind out a ton of bags"

That's your first mistake. You should not log a couple times a week, you should have a snatch list and snatch up cheap cloth every time you check the auction house.

Looks like someone did what I just said. He has a huge stockpile of 2g cloth and is still making 5g profit, you are not. He > You

You can't fix a market, you just should have bought cheap cloth in the first place, after a day or two with expensive cloth the major amount of compitors should be out of cloth and you can make 'big' money now

Of course it depends on the server. On mine, specialty cloth often sells for between 60-100g and frostweave bags are about 75g.

Whether you end up making bags or cloth, the point is to find a niche that's profitable. Most people seem to think that their profession is profitable in one or two areas and look no further. But if you look at your whole crafting book and calculate the profit/loss, you'll probably find another niche or two where you can make money.

The idea about switching specialties is nice; most people won't do that for sentimental reasons or because, not seeing the profit to be had in cloth, they're scared off by the cost.

Even if you have a stockpile of netherweave you bought at 2-5g per stack, if netherweave is currently selling for 6-8g per stack, why would you want to turn that into netherweave bags and sell them for less than the current price for a stack of netherweave?
