Morons of the week

Let's start the collection of this week with a weird one. I don't really understand why should Uzuri of Haomarush give up making money from glyphs. It seems even Greeves doesn't know it, he attached no explanation to his request:

Congratulations to Doghealer for his 2360 wow-heroes score. That means a nice collection of ilvl213-226 gear, gemmed and enchanted. However we cannot approve his request to find a similarly geared tank for a lousy 5-man. After all Ulduar 10 can be main tanked with 1650 score, so I'm not surprised that Albert found it strange:

Imourati screenshotted Adartina who is not M&S just making fun of morons who want [epic] for a 5-man, in a very stylish way. Feel free to do the same in trade chat:

Brundo of Daggerspine US notified Cellea about my site, so there is hope that she will see her masterpiece in public. BTW I've never heard of a hate mail being called hate mail:

Advo Kat choose a strange method to break into the glyph market, he posted for only 1-2G profit, in order to drive out the competition, with the intention to increase prices later. Poor Hugemill is about to learn that speculating goods that can be mass-produced profitably is not a good idea:

The next day he was kind enough to explain opportunity cost to Fleshcutter. Tomorrow I'll try to explain Schrödinger-equation to my neighbor's cat. That will have similar success I'm afraid.

My long term commenter, Wooly found what can be easily called an "arch-M&S", a "greatfather of all idiots making us rich in AH":

Nick sent a pretty good picture, but it still doesn't get here, because he blurred the name of the M&S. Such politeness would not amuse Sara who explicitly told us "Yes, yes, show them no mercy! Give no pause to your attacks!"

Nor will I pause. This is just the half of the morons I got this week, tomorrow there will be another batch. Stay tuned!

The mats are FREE if you farm them yourself! Why is this so hard to understand?

How do people not understand opportunity cost? it is a concept i got when I was 7...

Because farming mats cost time, time that you could use to buy them in the AH and make way more glyphs/armor/whatever and get more money faster by aiming to quantity.

a friend of mine think the same way "I farm/have the mats so it's free". I try at least 2 times a week to tell him how that is NEVER the case, the mats have value, etc.

He is always in the 1K gold range and can't buy himself anything he wants. He is always asking me "how can you make so much money?" and I repeat myself again and again.

I guess some people just don't get it no matter how much you try to explain it.

I'm going to stand up for Greeves here, as I know Uzuri. Uzuri is an okay guy, but he is ultimately ruining profits because he stays on a good portion of every day undercutting people by one silver with no partciular strategy. I've cornered his market a couple times now, only to discover him LOSING profit by selling his glyphs for less gold then it can cost to make. I don't want to sound like an advocate for messaging people about their business tactics, but still Uzuri makes some awkward business decisions.

@Cloaven: you don't seem to get it. The messages themselves are completely pointless, so anyone who does them is a moron, even if he is technically true. (which we cannot verify without being there)

If I would talk to a big piece of rock "pls dear rock move away" or "ffs get out of my way you piece of s###", I would be called moron by everyone. Don't talk to a rock. Remove it or walk away. Same with competition. The only one way for Greeves to get rid of Uzuri (or the other way) is to push him out with force. By chatting he just shown he is emotionally affected, giving extra push to the competition to hold out.

Though humour is subjective, the 'LFM [easy dungeon/raid] link [very tough achievement]' joke is fairly old now, and gets spammed on trade chat all day (and as it's an anti-elitist gag it most often comes from M&S)
I'm surprised you chose to include it here.

I will agree with that entirely, I never message my competitors and while I can not speak for Greeves I think he most likely does need to not get so upset over AH prices. That is entirely true. I was being somewhat stupid myself by even mentioning Uzuri's tactics, I just felt you may want to know a bit of back story. Sorry if this may cause any drama or anything.

To the last anonymous about the LFM link [achievement] is really common on my server too, but (it was me who took this screenshoot) it was the first time I saw someone asking for epic for a 5-man hc except ToC (he asked it actually for up hc and didn't even link his own, I sent the whole chat log screenshot but it would be too long to post here).

Exactly right. I either place them on ignore immediately or turn on DnD. Never give them the satisfaction of a response. So actually these topics contain 2 morons not one. Communication gives information = loose lips sink ships.

I agree with Goth on the loose lips thing. A while ago I explained some people in my guild some basic ideas on how to make money. The thanks I got was that they're undercutting me now. I've been a vault ever since, only telling people farm locations if they're asking for tips, because that helps me too.

P.S. I didn't really realize I was already a long term commenter. I was still living with the idea I just found this blog a few weeks ago for some reason :)

The funniest thing is that the people he is "helping" by selling the items way below cost are probably just flipping it.

I love these people and the people who sell stacks of saronite bar for 22g on the ah and then advertise it in trade chat.

Lol, that Fleshcutter is so stupid. Not only he has no idea of what you are trying to explain but it's also quite difficult to understand what he's saying.

Hey, last Anon, search through the tags and learn to type - that'll help you out the most in the long run.

More top notch morons. I'm lookin' forward to the next crop.

Just started in the glyph market three days ago, received my first messages today (though didn't get a screenshot) telling me to stop undercutting by so much and that I could make more if I didn't. Wish I'd gotten a ss though with my QA log showing that person telling me not to undercut them by so much was the one undercutting me by those amounts :P

At least I can respect that he's just trying to hurt my business rather than just being completely dum.

@ Lupius, dude you made me laugh so hard... i really hope you are kidding in that post.

About opportunity cost...

Lemme tell you a story.

When Wrath came out, I leveled Engineering very quickly. I knew it wasn't a profitable profession, most of the time, but recognized that I was in a position to be the ONLY person on the server selling epic ranged weapons.

Between days 4 and 6 of Wrath, I made 19,000g net profit (out of a gross of about 30,000, and I count the value of materials I farmed myself in the expense column) selling guns crafted with materials I mined myself. I know, opportunity cost, but at the time Saronite was going for 18+g PER ORE. I figured that my farming sessions were netting me about 1500g/hr just in Saronite, nevermind that it was to become a gun which sold for an even higher premium. Every three hours or so of farming netted me the materials I needed for the gun (including a Frozen Orb, which I traded for with one of the few 80s on the server for 100 Saronite), then each gun sold for multiple thousands of gold - 5000 at first, then 3500 on my last sale.

Sometimes materials are simply insane, and the best way to beat the market is by going out and doing the work yourself. At the time, I had access to a severely limited resource (being level 77 and therefore able to fly around and mine Saronite) and combining time with "expertise" (crafting skill) was the most profitable thing to do.
